The journal of a lady of quality: Janet Schaw of Lauriston - From Leith to the West Indies and North Carolina, 1774 - 1776.

This is the start of an expose of the Edinburgh connection with Caribbean slavery and the black servants that were brought back from there.

The lecture will explore references to those who owned slaves in Edinburgh and those undertook the same the voyage to the West Indies, notably Agnes ‘Clarinda’ Maclehose, a friend of Robert Burns.
